[đź“šSunday Book Club]: "Flow" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

It's the last month of our 2023 Sunday Book Club!

And yes, you are right, I kept some of my favorite books just for the holiday season.

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (a Hungarian name, in case you were wondering) was a legendary psychologist focused on “optimal experience” aka, the state of consciousness called “flow”. He was actually the first scientist who ever named this type of state of mind. And what does flow mean? It’s typically an experience of creativity, total involvement with life, or deep enjoyment.

What got me highly curious about Mihaly’s work was the promise of discovering true happiness, unlocking my true potential, or even mastering peak performance. All of that sounds epic, right?

Well, let me tell you, after reading this book I got hooked and followed several other writers focusing on this topic. Maybe you remember me raving about Steven Kotler’s book, The Art of Impossible. Anyway, if you are curious about your own growth as a business owner, parent, friend, partner or human, you need a copy of this book!

For now here are a couple of quotes to start the fire inside of you:

“A person can make himself happy, or miserable, regardless of what is actually happening 'outside,' just by changing the contents of consciousness. “

“How we feel about ourselves, the joy we get from living, ultimately depends directly on how the mind filters and interprets everyday experiences.”

“Contrary to what we usually believe, moments like these, the best moments in our lives, are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times — although such experiences can also be enjoyable, if we have worked hard to attain them. The best moments usually occur when a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile.”

Flow might be one of the best books you will ever read, simply because you will be asking yourself , “What makes a life worth living?”

It’s a handbook on Happiness -- and that, my friends, we need like oxygen.
I hope you enjoyed this little dose of inspiration.

Wishing you a fantastic week!

Love, Hana
