Sunday Book Club - Deep Work by Cal Newport

Sunday Book Club - Deep Work by Cal Newport

I’m not obsessed, I’m passionate 😁 about anything that can improve my focus, productivity and overall outcome of my work. And that's why I want to talk about Deep Work by Cal Newport. 📚

First the principle itself: “deep work” is the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively demanding task.

Tell me, on scale 1 to 10 how well can you stay focused for one hour or longer?

Me? Well, let’s say I’m a work in progress and I can imagine that I’m not alone. The thought of just having mental space to fully focus for an extended period of time is extremely attractive, but feels unattainable.

However, there is a solution: “deep work” as Cal Newport emphasizes, is the need to break free from the modern addiction to distraction. For us entrepreneurs, this means social media, emails, cell phones, messages, notifications and other digital distractions. By creating a workspace favorable to deep work and implementing strategies to minimize interruptions, real estate professionals can unlock their full potential. (what would that mean for you?) 🙅‍♂️💻

  • more productivity📈
  • more opportunities💰
  • more time for yourself 🥳

As for quotes, I picked quick, snappy ones so they stick with you (and me):

“If you don’t produce, you won’t thrive—no matter how skilled or talented you are.”

“Two Core Abilities for Thriving in the New Economy 1. The ability to quickly master hard things. 2. The ability to produce at an elite level, in terms of both quality and speed.”

“[Great creative minds] think like artists but work like accountants.”

Keep in mind that we ALL struggle with similar problems and distractions. If you want you can totally win the game using Cal’s guidance and crush your competition by mastering deep work, pushing your own boundaries, building habits and reducing distractions. In a world of multitasking, cute puppy videos and like counts, those who will engage in deep work will succeed.🎯

And one last quote before I let you go, relates to the fact that nothing great is easy. If we want to reach higher, achieve more and succeed, we have to accept the potential pain or stretch.

"The best moments usually occur when a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile.”

I’m wishing all of us to be curious, hungry and flexible enough to get what we want.

Happy Sunday

Love, Hana ❤️
