Don’t judge this book by it’s cover. You might think it will teach you how to talk to strangers, but that’s not the case. Malcolm Gladwell, in his Talking to Strangers digs deep on the topic of how little we know about people we don’t know. Yet, we are so quick to judge, assume, or misinterpret when we are dealing with strangers.
In Real Estate, it’s inevitable; it’s a world full of strangers and we have to learn how to communicate basically with anyone (even those we don’t like).
As I mentioned above, this book is not a “How to”, it’s more of an analysis of how difficult it actually is to connect and truly understand one’s story.
“Sometimes the best conversations between strangers allow the stranger to remain a stranger.”
“We jump at the chance to judge strangers. We would never do that to ourselves, of course. We are nuanced and complex and enigmatic. But the stranger is easy. If I can convince you of one thing in this book, let it be this: Strangers are not easy.”
I like that: “Strangers are not easy.” Maybe we can humbly accept that there will remain some mystery over those people you simply can’t understand.
Btw, this book was difficult read, because I had to pause a lot and replay in my mind some encounters with strangers to see it from a new perspective.
Well, now I know…”strangers are not easy” and we don’t know what we don’t know.
What I know is that, if I could, I would make an order on Amazon and fill up my cart with more kindness, tolerance and patience.
Happy Sunday
